About the event

Music Production became a part of We Rock’s Music Lab curriculum during the pandemic and our students loved it! After Winter Break, we come back ready to create original songs and music videos until the spring. Students of all ages learn songwriting techniques and music production and film fundamentals during one on one lessons with We Rock’s teaching musicians and film makers. After the songs are created and recorded, the students storyboard their idea for a music video and make it happen. Our talented teaching musicians, filmmakers and volunteers help make their vision a reality, and the students participate every step of the way. This program culminates in an Album Release Party at a movie theater which is open to the public.

This project connects community members across age, gender, and racial gaps through collaboration. Children and adults work together to achieve a common goal. People from different cultures/at different points in their lives tend to make very different choices. With our Student Album, the teacher offers sets of choices and the students choose their path supported by an expert. It’s always incredible seeing two students converge their unique ideas into one song or idea. In this nurturing environment, everyone’s individuality shines and the way their creative choices overlay with another’s creates something completely unique and interesting. At our release party, we will celebrate everyone’s creative achievements by watching the music videos in a movie theater. We Rock will interview the students, prompting discussions around creative collaboration and how it impacted them throughout the project. We will then have an open Q&A discussion with the public. Accessibility is paramount to our program as we show students how to use music and film technology available to all income levels. Through additional scholarship funding, the We Rock Album is made available to students, regardless of socioeconomic status. Our Music Lab Student Album and Album Release Party:

-Encourages creative expression -Nurtures inventive collaboration -Instills ownership of one’s own vision -Celebrates individuality -Offers leadership skills -Builds musical technique -Teaches creative writing and storyboarding -Develops understanding of basic audio engineering principles
