This month's free Amplify! Workshop was led by Artist and Leadership Team member, Elizabeth Palmisano! Elizabeth's work as an educator employs a powerful experiential and invitational approach that allows space for uncontrived and inevitable self-reflection and expansion of perspectives, through the process of creating meaningful art.
In our kids workshop, we used big motions to create scribbles on the table and then used our imaginations to fill in the blanks and come up with drawings from the scribbles. Collaboration was encouraged as we shared colors and talked about what we saw with this intuitive process.
In our teens workshop, we used markers, paint and ink to create interesting doodles and abstract works! This was also a collaborative process very similar to the way we write lyrics at Rock Camp! Add your art contribution and pass the paper along. Eventually all of the sheets of paper were marked by many hands!
All participants wrote wishes for We Rock on pieces of paper. These wishes will be meditated on and will serve as the fuel for Elizabeth's upcoming project that benefits We Rock Charlotte.
“I’ve been volunteering for the camps for a few years now and I felt inspired to do anything I possibly can to support them in expanding to serve more youth. I’ve done the 100 Days of Wishes art project before, but I felt specifically inspired to collaborate with We Rock Charlotte as the beneficiary.” said Palmisano.
Elizabeth is a wish keeper! She collects wishes and then transforms them into beautiful works of art. Over the next few months, she will be creating 100 "Wishes" for Wishes for We Rock: Concert and Art Show on May 15th at Starlight on 22nd. Come and see how your child's wish is transformed into a whimsical work of art. The backgrounds of these pieces will incorporate the work that the kids and teens created in this workshop. Wishes will be available for adoption with a percentage of the proceeds going to We Rock Charlotte.
