Charlotte Musicians Form Bands with Strangers in We Rock Charlotte’s Rock Roulette
October 25th, 2022
Charlotte, NC
Local nonprofit, We Rock Charlotte (fka Girls Rock Charlotte), is kicking off their first annual Rock Roulette fundraiser! Adult musicians (ages 21 and up) meet, form bands, and spend 4 weeks coming up with 10 minutes of material. The bands then compete in an epic battle of the bands competition all while raising funds to help youth play music!
The event starts with a kick off party at Charlotte Art League on November 12th, 2022 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. This is where musicians will meet and learn about each other, then team up to form a band!
Beginner to Advanced musicians are welcome (no instrument instruction is provided)
Band Rehearsal space will be provided by We Rock Charlotte and JamBox. Each band must have a minimum of 4 rehearsals and rehearsal locations/dates/times will be coordinated with bands at the kick off event.
Bands will have their own crowdfunding page for WRC and share it with their circles while working on their set.
The Battle of the Bands Concert will be open to the public at Free Range Brewing in NoDa on December 10th at 7:00pm. It is there that the crowd will determine the winner of the Battle of the Bands of Rock Roulette! A prize will also be awarded to the band that brings in the most donations.
This is We Rock Charlotte’s first mixed gender adult program. Since 2014, We Rock has been creating incredible music and film programming for girls and gender diverse youth. Along with a name change, last March, We Rock Charlotte began offering programming for cis boys as well.
“Gender language has evolved since the creation of our organization, and it makes me proud to say that we have evolved with it. When most of our youth don’t identify as “girls” it was time for an update!” says We Rock Creative Director, Krystle Baller.
We Rock Charlotte now offers year round music lessons, workshops and summer camps for cis gender boys in addition to their adult programming.
